I realized I want to write down some stories about our life and especially Deane that could easily be forgotten. I'm choosing this method for now...
Early last week we stayed in a "2 room suite" which was two adjoining hotel rooms so that Deane could have his own room for sleeping and naps. Unlike hotels with true suites, the adjoining rooms have their own locks on each side. We deadbolted the door of Deane's room and put the manual lock across too. The one time we forgot to shut our door while he was awake, he swiftly ran into the extra room and shut the door. With no access to open it from our side or the exterior, Chris ran to the front desk while I entertained Deane from the opposite side of the door.
At first Deane found the whole thing very funny. He still thought he was in control, but quickly realized I wasn't opening the door even though he wanted me to. Chris returned with the front desk attendant and a hacksaw. After overiding the deadbolt, she attempted to flip the manual open using a magazine. Realizing that Deane was getting worked up, she turned to Chris and said, "We don't usually let guests saw their lock off, but I think you will get to your son quicker." It was a matter of second before he removed the lock and Deane was saved.
The whole process likely took less than 10 minutes, but as people often say, it felt like a lifetime. It was pretty quickly a funny story. And if you're wondering...they replaced the lock and didn't charge us.
